fun. took part in the Campus Consciousness Tour with REVERB in 2012 which encourages college students to actively support LBGTQ equality in their lives. The group is very adamant about using their voice to support equal rights for everyone.
fun. is comprised of a trio of former band members of The Format (Nate Ruess), Steel Train (Jack Antonoff), and Anathallo (Andrew Dost). The three fun. members were all on the same tour, just with their prospective bands, in 2006.
Before the band decided on a name, they did an extensive search of another band called "Fun". They came up with nothing and began to use it. A few months later, they were contacted by a band whose name was, indeed, "Fun," so Nate's band decided to add the period.
One of their latest and unreleased songs Sight of the Sun was used in the season two soundtrack of Girls. Lucky for Lena Dunham she has an in with one of the bandmates! This song was left off of the Some Nights album because a sample used in the chorus had not been cleared, but Nate Ruess ended up rewriting the chorus anyway!
Producer of fun.'s album Some Nights Jeff Bhasker, after seeming a bit disinterested in the band, and blowing off meetings with them twice, decided to only give Nate Ruess 10 minutes of a meeting one night. But they got to talking about music, Bhasker invited Ruess up to his hotel room to hear some Beyonce tracks he had been working on, and all he needed was the lead singer to sing the chorus to "We Are Young," once and he wanted to get into the studio immediately.
